Team Thirteen Limited ("we", "us", "our") is the data controller for WanEats (搵食) and the websites at waneats.com and teamthirteen.co.uk. This policy explains what personal information we collect when you use WanEats, how we use it, and the rights you have. We handle personal data in accordance with UK data protection law (UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018).
Information we collect
- Account information. When you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and Google account identifier, which we use to create and secure your account.
- Your saved content. The restaurants, dishes, tags, notes, and "want to go" / "visited" status you save, and their locations on your map.
- Reel links you share. The video links (for example Instagram reels) you send to WanEats. We retrieve the publicly available video so we can identify the restaurant, dishes, and location, and we store the extracted details together with a reference to the link.
- Location. With your permission, your device's approximate location, used only to show saved places near you. We do not track your location in the background.
- Technical information. A secure sign-in cookie to keep you logged in, and basic server logs (such as IP address and timestamps) used to keep the service secure and reliable.
How WanEats processes a shared reel
When you share a link, WanEats downloads the video and extracts its audio and still frames, then uses automated speech recognition and a vision–language model to identify the restaurant name, signature dishes, and location. The location is then matched to a map position using third-party geocoding services. We keep the resulting structured details and the link reference; media used during extraction is processed transiently and is not published.
How we use your information
We use your information to provide and operate WanEats — extracting and saving places, powering search and the map, providing directions, and letting you share places with people you choose — to keep your account secure, to fix problems and improve extraction quality, and to respond to you. We do not use third-party advertising networks and we do not sell your personal information.
Who we share it with
- Other users you choose. If you share a saved place with another WanEats user, we send that place to their review queue using the email address you provide.
- Service providers. We use trusted providers to run the service, including Google (sign-in and place/geocoding lookups), OpenStreetMap / Nominatim (geocoding), and our hosting and automated-processing infrastructure. They may process data only on our instructions.
- Legal reasons. Where required by law, or to protect our rights, our users, or the service.
Third-party content and services
WanEats works with links to content hosted on third-party platforms such as Instagram. We access publicly available video to extract factual details; we are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by those platforms, and their handling of your data is governed by their own policies.
Retention
We keep your account information and saved content for as long as your account is active. You can delete individual places at any time, or delete your entire account, which removes your personal data from our live systems; residual copies in backups are purged on a rolling basis.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to our use of your personal data, to data portability, and to withdraw consent where we rely on it. To exercise any of these, email us at info@teamthirteen.co.uk. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
Security and international transfers
We protect your data with signed sessions, encrypted (HTTPS) connections, and access controls. No system is completely secure, but we work to safeguard your information. Where data is processed outside the UK or EEA, we take steps to ensure a comparable level of protection.
Children
WanEats is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time; we will revise the "last updated" date above when we do.
